We encourage men to be more expressive of their feelings so that they do not express their discomfort in a harmful way. Sure! That sound very staight forward and easy. However, it is important to note that men and female are not wired the same. Male figures are not as emotionally expressive as female. Who by show of hands wish to have a male figure that cries infront of the kids whenever faced with a challenge. Is it toxic musculinity? Am i encouraging the societal proverb “monna ke nku o llela teng?”. I am probably not even a fit candidate to engage men but NO, that’s not what i am saying. Men need to find safe spaces of engaging their emotions yet be able to come back and assume a role of being a povider, a shield and a leader. Let us take their lead as to how they wish to pour their heavy hearts out yet in a manner that doesn’t infridge on those that are around them.
